Farmhouse Bathroom Tile Ideas

By: Advaita Raut |

The essence of the farmhouse design is warm, rustic, inviting yet modern. This is a big trend and it’s no surprise when you see the kinds of beautiful rooms you can create.

Most bathrooms work perfectly with a white sink, tub and toilet, and the farmhouse design is no exception. Mixing modern and fresh with rustic touches, you can style your bathroom to exceptionally complement your perfect farmhouse tile.

The joy of farmhouse interiors is their flexibility within the color palette and accessorizing materials. You may already have a modern look like marble or chevron tile in your bathroom and you can work with this.

So long as you pair these contemporary designs with more rustic elements, you will create the aesthetic you’re after. So, by all means, tile your wall with a smart herringbone tile but then add some rustic wood touches to complete the style.

Perhaps that could be adding a wood stool in the corner of the bathroom. Or a natural wood framed mirror. And a pot plant will always add that country finish.

The key with the farmhouse look is to keep the backdrop calm and neutral, but not too minimal. So mixing your bathroom tile textures is a great idea for this theme.

A subtle marble tile detailed with a pale gray vein can be given texture when layered on the same wall with the addition of a white penny or mosaic tile.

These tile types give modern vibes but the inclusion of black hardware on the sink lends a touch of rustic. And a pretty green pot plant will be the required hint of nature alongside a natural wood vanity.

Monochrome Farmhouse Luxury

For a bathroom oozing sophistication you can add some opulent pattern through your choice of tile. We know that farmhouse design encourages the layering of textures in a natural color palette, and black and white is a good accompaniment and is also ultra modern.

A white scallop shaped tile can be mixed with a hexagonal gray tile in an inset shelf. Then perhaps go for damask style abundance through onto the floor tile. Again, your styling will further enhance the rustic appeal with chunky black hardware, a plant and some neutral hints.

When it comes to the best lighting for these tiles, then you really can’t go wrong with traditional shaped wall sconce light fittings for farmhouse character.

Black and White Farmhouse Backsplash

For a similar monochrome look but with a twist, a bold yet traditional large tile can be installed on the backsplash. If you have not tiled before, this can be straightforward with the right tools and instructions, so you might like to try installing your own tile backsplash.

This kind of tile looks simply amazing against wood. So go all out with a wood vanity or bathroom countertop and add wood mirrors. For faucets, a traditional olde worlde style of hardware will keep all the character of the farmhouse aesthetic.

Farmhouse Subway Tile

The colors you can use for the farmhouse look are generally neutrals but you can get away with pastel hues also. A delicate gray blue tile will create a wonderful backdrop to a rustic bathroom.

A wood vanity, antique style mirror and black hardware and lighting look gorgeous against this classic tile. And for final finesse, add a cute pot plant and a simple wood framed artwork.

Gray Tile Against Farmhouse Vanity

If you like a conventional subway tile then you can find a range of sizes and colors. Somehow a slightly taller tile is cozy and in a pale green gray you can then add a patterned floor tile. In grays and neutrals in a traditional design, this will contrast just perfectly.

The key to keeping the look on the farmhouse lines is to pick a subtle wood vanity with a natural stone style mirror. Cute silver antique faucet and a touch of foliage will complete the look.

Stonewalled Design

The ultimate in farmhouse style is an exposed stone wall. So if you have this in your bathroom then make the most of the lovely texture and keep it there.

If you like the idea of exposed stone but have neatly plastered walls, you can buy a textured tile to provide a similar effect. To add the charm against this more raw look, pick an elegant light fitting and hardware. A freestanding tub will also do the job of injecting a little more refinement.

Shiplap and floor tile

Not so much tile, but performing the role of a classic tile backsplash, is a shiplap wall or backsplash. Ensure you use a waterproof paint in your bathroom to keep this tip top for as long as possible.

Against this rustic wood look, you can go for a damask print tile in white and pale gray. Then install wood shelving, mirror and accessories. Keep it pretty with a vase of pale blooms and notch up the rustic with black hardware.

Penny Tile, Pattern Inset and Subway Tile

In a monochrome scheme you really can go for a variety of tiles which all add to the country style charm. A white subway tile looks cute on a wall against a shiplap sloping ceiling and works well with a monochrome penny tile on the floor.

The pièce de résistance? A monochrome patterned tile inset shelf. Not only does this add a little character but is also practical space for your bottles and lotions while you shower. Style with a small wood bench and a wood light fixture.

Rustic Pattern Tile

If you like to add a little color into your scheme, you can do this tentatively by picking a tile in neutral brights like tans, blues, grays and browns on a white background.

By adding a rustic light fixture such as a bare lightbulb and a wood mirror and vanity, you’ll add the country charm to this more eclectic look. Also keep the busy pattern confined to one wall and contrast with a plain white tile on the other walls.

Wood Effect Farmhouse Tile

If you really love the wood cabin look and would like to try it in your bathroom you can do so by installing a ceramic tile that has a wood effect.

As well as fitting like planks on the wall, you can also add a little more interest through tiling in a chevron design. For inset shelves, you can add a modern bright white tile interior and cool modern shower and faucet.

Whitewashed Farmhouse Tile

You can have a country cottage shiplap look in your bathroom in the form of whitewash ceramic tile planks. Install these horizontally and mix shades for an authentic look.

A penny tile in the same brown and white shades is delightful on the floor and a further feature can be created by framing inset shelves with brown plank tiles. With this highly rustic effect keep other fixtures and fittings simple and modern.

Metal Shed with Brick Tile Farmhouse Idea

Could there be anything more rustic than this?! For true aficionados of the farmhouse look, the wall of this simple shower is made from metal paneling. What’s more, the floor is made from a red brick. Too cute!

Keeping this look basic and minimal might make you think you are in a western movie! So you can add some sophisticated lighting and decor choices to get all the effect of the modern farmhouse look.

In Summary

Like other rooms where you are decorating with the farmhouse theme, layering is a great idea. It adds charm and interest to a modern bathroom. So pick several tiles and use different patterns and finishes on the wall and the floor. Perhaps create an inset with another tile again.

Using rustic decor like black hardware, traditional wall sconces and some greenery will keep that country look shining through. A limited color palette of neutrals, grays and black and white will mean you have a fresh, clean yet warm-looking bathroom.
