Where to Put Your Toaster Oven in the Kitchen

By: Advaita Raut |

A toaster oven is a great appliance for small amounts of cooking or for heating things up. It is great to use as it’ll stop your house from getting too hot as your regular oven would when on for a long period of time.

And it’ll save energy as it’s small and you only have to heat it for short periods. Thumbs up for the environment and for your energy bills! But where in your kitchen should your toaster oven go?

That may depend on who is using the oven and how frequently you might be using it. Also you’ll want to consider whether you have a shiny new toaster oven you want to show off or perhaps an old faithful you’re happy to keep out of sight.

The most obvious place to set up your toaster oven is on the countertop. And providing you have the space, that’s a good option. It’s easy to access and will make dishing up super easy.

You might worry that your countertop may get damaged but a toaster oven is designed to stay cool on the outside so that should not be a problem. You may just want to think about adequate ventilation so don’t place it too close to the wall.

Toaster Oven Shelf

If you have an open cabinet or kitchen shelves then these are just the ideal place to put your toaster oven. If you have a little less countertop space then this will free up room and keep the oven tucked away.

What’s more, when styled with your microwave on another shelf – in a matching finish, naturally – you can create a gorgeous display. Place your cool colored kitchen ceramic wear or some expensive cookbooks and you can create quite the bespoke look.

Looking Cute with the Microwave

Well, isn’t this just the cutest, handiest shelf for your kitchen? A freestanding ornate black metal shelf unit in timeless, on-trend black will house both your microwave and your toaster oven.

Make sure there is a good gap between each appliance for ventilation and that the shelf is a grill effect, also to allow the air to circulate.

This combo is a clever use of kitchen space and looks pretty neat too. And a small shelf like this won’t break the bank either.

Sleek Built-In Toaster Oven

If you want your kitchen to have sleek, smooth lines then you can think about making your toaster oven built into your cabinets.

Creating a shelf space within your cabinets the dimensions of your toaster oven will give that bespoke feel. So see if your shelves are adjustable and there might just be some cabinet space where your oven will fit.

Above Your Oven

If you have a built in double oven and microwave, then you may also like to add your toaster oven to the equation.

So if you are fitting a new kitchen or modifying the one you have, this kind of configuration is both practical, accessible as well as looking totally stylish.

Toaster Oven in a Wall Cabinet

If you have small children who are not yet ready to help with some fun home baking or cooking, then you may like to keep your toaster oven way up on high.

A wall cabinet recess is a great spot to fit a toaster oven. It’ll keep the countertop clear and make good use of a spare cabinet.

Butler Pantry

The height of sophistication is a butler pantry. What is this, you wonder? It is simply a tall cabinet with shelves on the top half and cabinet doors.

Inside, you can place a microwave, a coffee machine and your toaster oven, together with some dishes and cutlery. So when you have friends around, all the things you need for entertaining are on hand.

And when not in use, you can close the door to keep the smooth lines of your chic home kitchen. Perfect!

In Summary

A toaster oven is a super handy kitchen appliance with some energy saving benefits. Putting it on top of the countertop will make it easy to get to and highly practical.

But if you have less space then you might want to think about housing it in a cabinet or on a shelf. If you have a microwave on the countertop already then have a look for a freestanding metal shelf to put the toaster oven above.

And for designer sleek and chic, put your toaster oven above a fitted oven for the ultimate in luxury, or perhaps even one better. Create a butler pantry so you can impress your guests when you’re entertaining.
